___________________________Bylaws Update_____________________________

For our first year we operated with the bylaws inherited from our predecessor the  Samarkand District Improvement Association.  Thanks to the efforts of Anna DeVore, Jim Smith and Charlie Stapleton we have  revised and updated the Association's bylaws.  At our October 26th meeting the Board of Directors formally adopted the new  Samarkand Neighborhood Association Bylaws.
The bylaws can be viewed on our Documents Page.

Beginning Monday, July 17 the street sweeping schedule in the Samarkand Neighborhood was changed from weekly to twice monthly. Sweeping is on the first and third Mondays of each month.
For over a year the Samarkand Neighborhood has benefited from weekly street sweeping. Clean Sweep has enhanced our neighborhoods appearance and helped keep runoff water from contaminating our creeks. Judged by the amount of debris swept up, City Staff has determined that twice monthly sweeping would be sufficient
An archive of meeting minutes and newsletters is now available on the documents page.
Samarkand Neighborhood Association, Inc.

Our Association is now registered as a California Non-profit Corporation.
By incorporating we have enhanced the legitimacy of our organization and protected the Board and membership from liability issues.  Because of the great expense involved, we chose to not apply for Federal 501 tax status.
This means that member dues and donations are not tax deductible.  Considering our minimal five dollar membership dues the tax deduction would a mere drop in the bucket
Graffiti Abatement

Let's all do our part to keep our neighborhood beautiful.  If you notice graffiti in our neighborhood please report it so it is promptly removed.
The Graffiti Hotline phone number is: (805) 897-2513  You can call the hotline at any time to report graffiti.  Please be prepared to provide the following information.
        1.  Street name, address if available
        2.  Nearest cross-street
3   What type structure has been hit with graffiti
        4.  Color of structure
        5.  Your name and phone number (optional)

If you are reporting graffiti vandalism in progress call 911.  The Santa Barbara Police Department will respond.

If you are interested in becoming involved in graffiti cleanup you can call Looking Good Santa Barbara at (805) 897-2526.

Ed Graper  has published very helpful paper on graffiti removal.
A must read if you want to do some graffiti removal yourself.

In may the City Council approved updates to the NPO/Single Family Design guidelines.
These updates are the result of  extensive public input and compromise over the past three years.  The result of these updates will be added assurance of appropriate aesthetics and compatibility in our neighborhoods.
The newly established Single Family Design Board will take over the planning/permit process for single family homes.

The efforts and time of  SNA and Allied Neighborhoods folks that helped
make this a success are greatly appreciated!
